Working at age 65?

Do you keep employer coverage or enroll in Medicare?

The month you turn 65 you are eligible to receive your Medicare benefits. In most cases, you don’t have to sign up for Medicare if you have health insurance through your or your spouse’s employer.

If you or your spouse will continue to work at age 65, you will need to decide what insurance fits your needs. The addition of Medicare allows you to compare your coverage options.  By comparing your options, you will be able to select the choice that is the overall best for your budget and health coverage needs.

Things to compare and consider!

What are your monthly premiums for employer coverage verses Medicare?

What is your total or maximum out of pocket cost in the event of an accident or illness?

Are prior authorizations required for certain medical services?  If so, what services require Prior Authorization?

What type of network coverage will you have?

If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA), how will your coverage choice effect your HSA contributions?
