Medicare and Telemedicine
With all the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, Medicare is stepping up and helping make sure that seniors can receive necessary healthcare without risk of exposure. What do you need to know about telemedicine? Medicare will now cover your healthcare appointments through telemedicine. This can provide you access to healthcare without having to leave the comfort of your home.
Exactly what is telemedicine?
You may have heard of telehealth. Telehealth is different for telemedicine. Telemedicine is used by medical professionals to diagnose and treat illnesses from a remote location. Telehealth is concerned with monitoring your overall health and wellbeing. Telehealth is more geared toward a checkup. It is more about maintenance than treatment of illnesses. Telemedicine is the use of technology to basically have an office visit from your home. Your healthcare provider can assess and prescribe medicine just as he or she could if you were actually in his or her office.
Medicare and Telemedicine
President Trump issued a declaration in March. This declaration resulted in giving CMS the ability to waive restrictions for telemedicine. These waived restrictions also apply to telehealth. As a Medicare recipient, you now have the option of receiving a variety of healthcare services right in your home.
Medicare and Coronavirus Testing
If you have to tested for coronavirus, Medicare will cover the cost of the testing at 100%. You will not have a deductible to meet.
