Medicare Supplement – PLAN G

There are  times when Medicare Supplement Plan G may be a better value than Medicare Supplement Plan F.  Medicare Supplement Plan F is going to have a higher monthly premium.  Total yearly premiums for Plan F can sometimes outweigh the value.  What do we mean?  The only difference in Plan F and Plan G is the Part B deductible.  If an individual has  Plan G, he or she has to pay the Part B deductible.  The Part B deductible for 2025 is $257 for the calendar year.

Let’s put this comparison into a real life situation.

Mrs. Rogers is a 69 year old female who is wanting to compare Plan F to Plan G.  Mrs. Rogers is married, so she qualifies for a household discount.  The monthly cost for Plan F is $135. The monthly cost of  Plan G for Mrs. Rogers is $95.  Looking at those monthly premiums, Plan F costs $40 more per month.  The difference for a year would be $480 more in premium for Plan F than Plan G.  Remember, the only difference between the two plans is the Part B deductible of $257.

The only benefit that Mrs. Rogers would be getting from Plan F is that the Part B deductible ($257) is covered. Basically, if Mrs. Rogers selected Plan F, she would be paying the company a total of $480 more in  premiums per year than if she had selected Plan G.   If she had chosen Medicare Supplement Plan G, she would save $223 per year ($480 – $257).  If saving money is a priority for Mrs. Rogers,  then selecting  Medicare Supplement Plan G would be a better  option.
